Motivating Lives (AEH Peru)

Motivating Lives is part of the HAE PERU KIDS project, which arose from the need to raise awareness and spread the message about HAE in families, especially among school-age children.

Vanessa Raffael, the author of “Motivating Lives,” explains that the story is born from the life experience of the four (4) founders of the association, people who live with HAE. As children, they lived alongside fear and insecurity due to not having an early diagnosis. But their path was filled with courage and willingness to serve. Their experience allowed Vanessa to use the narrative to show that people can be resilient in the face of adversity and be a motivating agent for others who live a similar reality.

Vanessa also wanted to reaffirm that the path of support and companionship to people with a rare disease begins with respect, empathy, and the conviction that “rare is not the person, rare is the disease.”

Knowing the author’s vision, HAE Peru sought illustrations that reflected joy and helped readers empathize with the different emotions that people with HAE go through from the time we start looking for the diagnosis until we learn that it is part of our lives.

Motivating Lives seeks to encourage teamwork and leadership from an early age, based on respect for human rights and a culture of peace. HAE Peru wants Motivating Lives to help us to be part of and contribute to a fairer and more inclusive society in which children with HAE encounter fewer barriers in society.
